Who are you backing to win this season's Champions League?

The UEFA Champions League is back after an exhilarating first matchday in the group stages of  Europe’s premier club competition. The tournament never fails to live up to its billing, with the anthem, goals and floodlights helping to create the unique atmosphere that spurs on superstars to lead their team to glory.

Teams from all over Europe are grouped before striving to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament, which will eventually determine who will be crowned champions amongst a variety of contenders. The tournament is special in the way that group stage or league match form may count for little in deciding the Champions of Europe come the day of the final.

Surprises will occur on the way to the final as underdogs may eliminate the favourites in the group stages or, if things go as planned, the favourites will overcome the underdogs as the tournament progresses. Teams like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern Munich, who are the defending champions and current bookmakers’ favourites to retain their UCL title and should prove tough opponents. On the other hand, teams such as Manchester United, Inter Milan, Sevilla FC and Borussia Dortmund may spring surprises in the competition given the pedigree of footballers in their ranks who are determined to make a mark in the competition.

Bettors will be looking for attractive betting options as the tournament goes on, and we at Marathonbet are playing our part. Listed below are some selected games from UCL Matchday 2, coupled with our predictions.

UCL Matchday 2 Analysis and Predictions

Juventus vs FC Barcelona

A clash of two heavyweights who are giants in their respective leagues. Both are experiencing a mixed start to their seasons, with new managers trying out new tactics and assessing the players to try and deliver the success demanded by their supporters. Both teams are strong in attack but weaker in defence, and their match may be decided by the quality of delivery from the midfielders. Both teams won their opening group game convincingly against lesser opponents, but we think goals could flow in this match.

TIP: Both Teams To Score

Manchester United vs RB Leipzig

An established giant against a developing one. Leipzig are still a match for anyone despite losing their top striker and record goal scorer to Chelsea in the transfer window, and they are scoring for fun in their league matches to date. Their defence is complementing their attack, with four clean sheets in their first six competitive matches this season. Man Utd, on the other hand, have got a leaky defence who are conceding goals on a consistent basis but their experience in nights like this should see them through. Their opening group stage win away at PSG means they will come into this match full of confidence.

TIP: Manchester United to win

Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Real Madrid

The most successful team in UCL’s history face Mönchengladbach from Germany. Mönchengladbach’s defence has been vulnerable all season; they have conceded more than they have scored and Real Madrid are always on the alert to prey on situations such as this. Real Madrid know that nothing short of a win will suffice after surprisingly losing their opening match at home to Shakhtar. Whilst the motivation of playing at home will spur on Borussia Mönchengladbach, we think Real Madrid can bounce back and prove too much to handle on this occasion.

TIP: Real Madrid to win.
