Championship Correct Score Predictions: Weekend Games
Forget the race to reach the Premier League, it’s the fight to avoid relegation that looks set to dominate the agenda this weekend in the 2020/21 EFL Championship.
Several relegation-threatened sides go up against each other in the latest round of games, in what could be a defining week as teams head into the second half of the season.
With just nine points separating seven teams at the bottom of the table, it could be a nervy matchday for the clutch of clubs looking to preserve their Championship status.
Derby County and Nottingham Forest are two of the biggest clubs in the English second tier, but both have found themselves in a surprise relegation fight this season.
The East Midlands rivals will be eager not to waste home advantage this week as they host fellow strugglers Rotherham Utd and Millwall respectively.
Former Real Madrid ace Aitor Karanka has experienced a mixed record in his time as a manager in English football. The Spaniard has never quite managed to match his feat of guiding Middlesbrough to promotion in 2015/16 in his subsequent jobs and is feeling the pressure at Birmingham City. His current club meet his former club at the Riverside this weekend.
Another ‘six pointer’ will be served up at St Andrews as Coventry City meet a Sheffield Wednesday side currently enjoying an upturn in fortune under caretaker boss Neil Thompson. Finally in a relegation-themed set of fixtures, QPR will be looking to build on their first win in nine games at home to bottom side Wycombe Wanderers.
At the other end of the table, Norwich City will be looking to strengthen their grip on top spot away at inconsistent Cardiff City, while new Watford boss Xisco will be hoping his first few weeks on the training ground will now start to translate into improved performances for the Hornets.
The Spaniard will be looking to reboot their automatic promotion charge as Huddersfield Town travel to Vicarage Road.
